Why you shouldn't store milk in the fridge door

While the fridge door may seem like a convenient spot for storing your milk, it’s not the best option. Each time you open the door, the warm air from the room enters, increasing the temperature inside and accelerating spoilage. For milk to stay fresh, it needs to be kept consistently between 32 and 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Fluctuations in temperature can create an environment conducive to bacterial growth.
A better option is to place your milk on a lower shelf in the fridge, ideally toward the back. Since heat rises, keeping your milk lower will help it stay cooler. If your milk does warm up too much, you may notice signs of spoilage such as a yellowish hue, a slimy texture, curdling, crusting, and an off-putting smell. The taste will also be less than pleasant. In the worst-case scenario, if your milk has just a slight tang, consider using it in a bread recipe before it spoils further.
