How to safely reheat your leftovers

If you have food in a takeout container and wish to reheat it in the microwave, it's best to transfer your leftovers to a microwave-safe container made of glass or ceramic, such as a plate or bowl. This not only enhances heating efficiency but also prevents any harmful chemicals from leaching into your food.
When reheating, try to do it in intervals, even though it requires a bit more effort. This involves pausing once or twice to stir your leftovers, ensuring they heat evenly without any hot or cold spots. You can also help with this by spreading your leftovers in a single layer rather than stacking them in the center of a bowl. If the layers are too thick, you might find hot food on top and cold food in the middle. Additionally, to keep your leftovers from drying out, consider placing a damp paper towel over them. Just be sure the paper towel is microwave-safe and heat it in two-minute intervals. This will create steam, helping to retain moisture in your food.
If you don’t have a microwave-safe container, don’t give up and resort to using an unsafe takeout container. You can always reheat your leftovers on the stove or in the oven instead — even pizza slices can be warmed up in a pan with a bit of water. Just remember to keep the heat low and slow to avoid overcooking.
